Still time for businesses to win business at Jobs Fair Wednesday 20 June 2012 PDF Print STILL TIME FOR BUSINESSES TO WIN BUSINESS AT JOBS FAIR Thursday, 21st June 2012, 10am - 4pm, Fairfield Halls Croydon Croydon businesses that want to win business from Britain’s top Housing Associations should be at the Fairfield Halls on Thursday, 21st June for the South London Jobs Fair. But to grab the contracting opportunities on offer … they’ll have to register first! Dozens of businesses of all types and sizes have already registered, but there are still a few stands available, according to show organiser Moira Skinner, CEO of contracting specialist’s 3D Change. “The show’s a fantastic opportunity for small businesses like lift maintenance engineers, plumbers and property maintenance contractors to make the contacts they need to win business,” she said. But the event is also designed to help local people find jobs and training. The ‘Action to Work’ initiative running at the show is also linking up with local training providers and creating a range of opportunities for local people including actual jobs, work experience, ‘taster days and weeks’ where people get more hands-on work experience, apprenticeships, shadowing, mentoring and volunteering opportunities. Action to Work is a partnership between thirteen of Britain’s biggest Housing Associations and 3D Change - a Community Interest Company based in Airport House on the Purley Way that works to help small businesses win public sector contracts. “The South London Jobs Fair and our Action to Work initiative are about creating opportunities,” says Moira Skinner, Chief Executive of 3D Change. “It’s also making connections within the Housing Association ‘eco system’ – suppliers, sub-contractors and tenants. Small local businesses are getting the specialist support they need to win new contracts and they, in turn, are being linked up with potential local employees. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.” More than 700 employment opportunities will be up for grabs at the show, including jobs, training, short-term contracts and apprenticeships linked to employment. Housing Associations signed up so far include the lead partner Hexagon, Riverside and Orbit South with a commitment to work with smaller businesses to create jobs and real work opportunities for their tenants. More than 70 businesses are supporting the fair from sectors including, utilities, maintenance contractors, electrical installation engineers, construction, plumbers, nursing, lift engineers, cleaning and catering. More than 1,000 job-seekers and business representatives are expected to attend the Fair which is open from 10am to 4pm. The event is also open to unemployed Croydon Council Housing tenants, not just those in housing association accommodation. Exhibition stalls have been laid out so that housing associations and supplier businesses are neighbours – an arrangement that helps make connections and allows individuals to have initial interviews on the spot. Youth unemployment is at the top of everyone’s agenda and we would like to invite you to the South London Jobs Fair to help to tackle this major problem.
