Man Tries to Cover CCTV with Tissue during Restaurant Break-In, says AlertSystems Monday 27 October 2014 PDF Print A high quality CCTV surveillance system will provide the reassurance that any such individuals entering the premises will be able to be identified AlertSystems, leading providers of CCTV security, have commented on the recent news of a burglary at a Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Cheltenham town centre. A burglar was caught on CCTV trying to cover the camera with tissue during the break-in. Police are looking to speak to a man in connection with the burglary. The suspect is thought to have broken the lock into a staff office where he managed to open a safe. He managed to steal £600 in cash and walked out of the premises onto the adjoining Regent Street. The incident, which occurred between 5.45pm and 6.20pm on September 29th, has left the staff of the restaurant shocked. The manager on duty when the incident occurred said she did not spot the man entering the premises herself. Lucy Holloway, stated: ‘One of my members of staff saw the man enter the restaurant. He was in the area where people come in to deliver laundry and stock. He had such an air of confidence about him that the member of staff did not mention him to me.’ The burglar managed to find the safe which contained £625 and other takings, which was only accessible with a key. The key was kept in another safe which he had managed to get into, and he tried again to cover the CCTV camera with a tissue before he left. The manager realised there had been a break-in after service at around 10.30pm, when she came back to her office to find the tissue covering the CCTV camera. AlertSystems always takes a keen interest in relevant industry news. A spokesperson from the company made the following statement: “Having your business burgled can be an incredibly stressful experience, especially while you are open and on the premises yourself. Criminals who enter occupied premises are often prepared to use violence and if encountered should not be confronted. A high quality CCTV surveillance system will provide the reassurance that any such individuals entering the premises will be able to be identified. “In the case of the robbery at Jamie’s Italian in Cheltenham, the use of high quality CCTV solutions means that the criminal should be easy to track down. The individual clearly did not plan to be confronted by CCTV and proceeded to try and cover the lens with a tissue. The moments while the criminal was trying to obscure the camera’s view, resulted in the camera capturing a very clear and up close profile. In the hands of the police, this footage can be shared and distributed in order to bring this criminal to justice quickly and efficiently.” AlertSystems manage and maintain thousands of commercial security installations throughout the UK and are specialists in providing business security solutions.
