Truck tour visits University of Aberdeen

This tour was designed to support the oil and gas experts of today and tomorrow, by giving them access to the latest bite-sized training

Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technologies, attracted more than 900 visitors to a series of specialist oil and gas training roadshows across England and Scotland – with the action taking place on a 16.5-metre long truck.

The events were part of a 12-stop nationwide tour that included visits to Dorset, Gloucestershire, Norfolk, Warwickshire, Leeds, County Durham, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Sessions included practical taster training on key oil and gas topics, including corrosion and how to achieve leak-free connections. Experts from Parker and key distributors KC Controls, Fluid Controls and Heap & Partners also presented information for industry professionals, held question-and-answer sessions and provided product demonstrations in a specially-modified, state-of-the-art mobile training facility.

Separate roadshows were designed specifically for graduate students, particularly those studying engineering, finance, information technology and human resources topics. Students booked training slots and chatted with Parker trainees and staff about opportunities on the company’s graduate programme.

Steve McBride, Parker’s technology and market development manager - instrumentation, explained: "This tour was designed to support the oil and gas experts of today and tomorrow, by giving them access to the latest bite-sized training and product information.

“By delivering our training on-board the truck, participants could also handle some of the latest technologies and view products in a demonstration setting. This included a wide variety of double block-and-bleed and close coupled manifolds, plus high and ultra-high pressure fittings. It’s a great opportunity to discuss technical challenges.”

Will Ritchie, careers consultant team leader at Robert Gordon University, said: “Events like this are an excellent way of showcasing job opportunities to our students and preparing them for the world of work.

“When employers make the effort to visit campus, it demonstrates quite clearly to students that the company is genuinely interested in them and wants to receive applications from them. I think it’s been fantastic.”
