We continue to build on MariaDB’s development, with the help of the community, to make sure enterprises who need to future-proof their IT

MariaDB recognised as one of the best of open source infrastructure and management software platforms

LONDON, UK – October 28, 2014 – MariaDB Corporation (formerly SkySQL), a global open source database software leader, today announced it had been honoured by IDG’s InfoWorld, as a recipient of the Best Open Source Data Center and Cloud Software award (Bossies 2014).

InfoWorld’s Senior Writer, Serdar Yegulalp, shared his view on why MariaDB won: “It made sense to create an independent fork of the ubiquitous database. MariaDB, a drop-in, binary-compatible replacement for MySQL that's designed to work as well as possible with existing MySQL databases. Some of the new features added to MariaDB include a broader range of storage engines, such as the NoSQL Cassandra engine), a thread-pooling system akin to the one found only in the enterprise (for-pay) edition of MySQL, and security/compliance features also not available in the open source version of MySQL.”

“Being handpicked by the editors and contributors of this very prestigious publication as an InfoWorld Bossie Award winner is an honour. It is great to be listed alongside some of the biggest names of the open source movement,” said Patrik Sallner, CEO at MariaDB. “We continue to build on MariaDB’s development, with the help of the community, to make sure enterprises who need to future-proof their IT will keep using this world-class product.”

With its adoption growing at an annual rate of over 400% since launch, MariaDB offers a solid alternative to the Big Four database vendors. Its technology, used by web giants such as Google, Wikipedia and, spans SQL and NoSQL ecosystems, is cloud-ready and supports legacy MySQL applications.
