Vandals that attempt to commit further crimes should be aware that high definition CCTV cameras and reactive alarm systems are in place to deter them

The reaction follows a report in the North Wales Daily Post detailing the numerous incidents of vandalism that the Glanrafon Centre in Queensferry has been subjected to over recent months, and the positive steps the community has decided to take in order to tackle the problem.

The attacks to the centre have worsened over the past two months, with the most recent involving broken windows and damaged guttering. The incidents have sparked great concern in the local community, as the centre is primarily used to provide help and assistance to adults with learning difficulties and such disruption is the cause of serious distress to a number of those who use the facilities.

Until the vandalism started, community leaders saw no reason for any security systems to be installed. However, since the centre has been repeatedly targeted and nobody has been able to be identified due to a lack of footage, staff at the centre believe there is no other course of action in order to deter vandals from striking again.

With the introduction of suitable CCTV cameras, as well as an active alarm system, there is hope that the vandalism will cease in the area. Families of those who attend the centre are vocal in their support of the move, as care time is being diverted towards dealing with clearing up the damages and reporting incidents to the authorities.

As market leaders in security system installation throughout the country, a spokesperson for AlertSystems has released a statement following the report. “Vandalism is a matter of extreme severity, as what can be perceived as mindless criminal damage is actually extremely disruptive to local communities, such as we have seen here in Queensferry.

“The fact that these attacks are targeting a local community centre that only has charitable interests at heart makes these incidents all the more poignant. The deployment of electronic security solutions such as external deterrent systems and CCTV is highly effective in reducing the incidents of vandalism to both commercial and domestic premises.

“In light of this, we recommend swift action to be taken to display that incidents such as these are not taken lightly. Vandals that attempt to commit further crimes should be aware that high definition CCTV cameras and reactive alarm systems are in place to deter them from doing so.”
