Without the sufficient security measures put in place, businesses would have been left completely exposed

The reaction follows a report in News North Wales detailing the role of an electronic security system that ensured a thief was apprehended after the continued targeting of commercial property in the local area.

Geoffrey Sion Roberts headed up a team of thieves that stole thousands of pounds worth of commercial property across a number of thefts in Wrexham and Ruthin, North Wales. Their primary targets were Ifor Williams trailers, worth around £2,000 each, that were chained up in various industrial estates in the area.

Along with these, Roberts had cut a hole in the fence surrounding premises he believed were housing valuable goods and equipment. As a result, he was able to steal a pressure washer valued at almost £2,500 in the hope of selling it on.

After numerous robberies, police were able to identify Roberts’ vehicle that was present close to the sites of each burglary thanks to private security systems in place across the enterprise parks. His Peugeot was finally apprehended thanks to footage recorded on a forecourt security system at a nearby Esso petrol garage. Roberts was then identified as a ‘prolific thief’ by authorities, having previously been charged 42 times by local authorities for similar incidents. The judge ruled he spend a minimum of 18 months in prison after these most recent offences.

A spokesperson for AlertSystems, market leaders in business security systems, has released a statement following the news. “As we have seen in a number of cases up and down the country, businesses that trade on industrial estates are often targeted.

“The installation of electronic security systems across areas such as those in Wrexham and Ruthin has ultimately led to the apprehension of a criminal that was persistent in his attempts to steal valuable goods from their premises. Without the sufficient security measures put in place, businesses would have been left completely exposed and the team of professional thieves that were operating in the area would have had little deterrent when carrying out their crimes.”
