Crime author Pauline Rowson

Severn House Publishers has bought World English language rights to the first in a brand new crime series written by Pauline Rowson author of the popular marine mystery crime series featuring the flawed and rugged Portsmouth based detective DI Andy Horton. The first in the new series, Silent Running, featuring former Royal Marine Commando, Special Boat Services Officer, Art Marvik, is to be published in hardback in the UK in March 2015 and in the USA in September 2015 when it will also be released as an ebook.

Pauline Rowson is the author of thirteen crime novels, eleven in the DI Andy Horton series. "Her crime novels have been hailed as “The best of British crime fiction,” “exemplary”, “cleverly plotted, complex, fast-paced and multi-layered.” They’re published in the UK and USA and have been translated into other languages including Chinese.

She has been credited with redefining the genre of the police drama by setting her crime novels against the atmospheric backdrop of the sea in the Solent area of Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight on the South Coast of England. Her cops are tough yet fallible. USA reviewer Booklist says, ‘Like Ed McBain, Rowson works many subtle variations on the procedural formula. A definite winner.’

Silent Running, like the DI Horton novels, bears Rowson’s trademark of being set against the backdrop of the sea. But by introducing the former Marine Commando, Pauline Rowson says she has more scope to let him work outside the constraints of the law and to travel.

Adrift after leaving the marines, Marvik unexpectedly finds himself being used as bait to catch a ruthless killer whose slaying spree spans the decades. In a race against time, Marvik is sucked into a dangerous assignment and a web of deceit that will need all his skills, and those of his friend, former Marine Special Forces Communicator, Shaun Strathen, to get to the truth. Their mission, to stop a ruthless killer before he kills again. The first in the series sees both Marvik and Strathen becoming attached to the newly formed National Intelligence Marine Squad (NIMS).

Edwin Buckhalter, Chairman of Severn House, says, ‘Silent Running has all the hallmarks of a good Rowson novel, the setting and atmosphere, the sailing and boats, interesting characters, and the intricate, complex plot. It is certainly something that will excite her existing fans and bring in new readers.’

Fatal Catch, the twelfth in the DI Andy Horton series is to be published by Severn House in the autumn of 2015.

Married to a former fire fighter Pauline lives in Hampshire, England, and was long listed for the Crime Writers’ Association Dagger in the Library Award, and her environmental and political thriller In Cold Daylight based on a true story of the deaths of fire fighters was voted by the public as the third most popular novel for World Book Day 2008. She is also the author of the 1940s murder mystery play, Murder at the Pelican Club, several business books and is a popular speaker.

Pauline Rowson says, ‘I’m thrilled that Severn House are publishing the first in my new crime series. It’s going to be an exciting year in 2015 with a new hero on the block and another DI Andy Horton to delight his growing fan base.’
