Fuelling solutions specialists, Cameron Forecourt, have spoken of their pride at being selected to provide a new fuelling solution for West Midlands Police.

It follows confirmation that the force has commissioned the Barnsley-based company’s web-based ‘always on watch’ fuel management system. Operating a diverse range of vehicles including patrol cars, vans, recovery trucks, prison vans and motorcycles, West Midlands Police identified the Cameron Forecourt solution as being the best one for instilling a greater degree of accuracy and functionality when dealing with fuel supplies.

The system combines advanced fuelling technology and high accuracy tank gauging to provide round-the-clock real time data on fuel transit and stock at four ‘contingency’ sites in and around the West Midlands, including one for motorway police operations.

Each of the four constituent fuel islands features the Jigsaw Eclipse fuel management technology, delivering ‘front end’ fuel dispensing and data collection for supplies drawn from the police authority’s own tanks, which have been upgraded with new Veeder-Root TLS2 high accuracy gauging.

Cameron Forecourt has specially adapted the system to function using the force’s existing external vehicles-specific fuel cards that its personnel use at approved retail stations. Officers out in the field must enter the mileage of their vehicle accurately before drawing fuel.

Each of the force’s sites is used by a number of vehicles from the 1,600-strong fleet in order to ensure a turnover of both diesel and unleaded stocks. But the main function of the installations is to ensure supply continuity in the event of fuel shortages or industrial action.

In response to the news of the partnership, Sales & Marketing Director at Cameron Forecourt, Martyn Gent, said: ‘We are delighted that West Midlands Police have identified our cutting edge technology as being the answer to their fuel management needs.

‘As one of the largest forces in the country, West Midlands Police have to ensure their resources are adequately spread across a wide area and the movement of vehicles is crucial in achieving this. The implications of not having real time data to hand in terms of monitoring fuel usage across the fleet could be hugely damaging, so there was clearly a need for a fuel management system.

‘We were always confident that our ‘always on watch’ fuelling solution could provide the necessary accuracy and functionality in terms of dealing with their fuel supply needs and we hope this is the start of a long and fruitful relationship,’ he added.
