Braun’s new generation of high precision thermometers: peace of mind for your whole family

As a new parent, weaving your way through the maze of advice and information on your baby’s health can be confusing and somewhat stressful. Naturally, it’s concerning when your child is unwell and has a fever, but with the added worry of accurately measuring and interpreting his/her temperature, as well as struggling to take the temperature of an unwell child, it can be a very difficult time.

Braun, the number one thermometer brand recommended by doctors1, has tackled these problems head on with its new generation of high precision thermometers. Designed to offer parents peace of mind, Braun’s breakthrough technology will help you to precisely monitor and understand your family’s body temperature with its new offerings. Each of their new thermometers has been specially designed with both accuracy and comfort in mind, allowing you to take your child’s temperature as gently as possible.

Did you know that the definition of fever changes with age? Braun's new Age Precision® technology does

Did you know that the definition of fever changes with age? Not many parents are aware of this fact. Clinical research2 shows that the definition of fever changes with a child’s age - so what is an acceptable temperature for a four year old can be classed as a high fever in a newborn. Many parents, however, are completely unaware of this and can quite easily misinterpret a temperature reading.

That’s why Braun has developed the new Age Precision® technology - an age adjustable fever guidance system. It is designed to take the guesswork out of monitoring your child’s temperature. It enables you to set the age of your child (0-3 months, 3-36 months and 36 months to adult) so you can interpret the reading quickly, confidently and easily based on the age, using a simple colour coded display. Green is a normal temperature for that age range, yellow indicates an elevated temperature and red suggests a high temperature.

If your child’s temperature is recorded in the yellow (elevated temperature) or red (high temperature) range, then it is advisable that a doctor should be consulted, especially if your child is presenting other symptoms along with a fever.

A high temperature reading is usually a sign of infection, which can either be attributed to a virus or bacteria. While not life threatening in some cases, there is still a chance it could be a serious illness which requires immediate medical attention. You should look to consult with a doctor at the first opportunity. Along with a temperature reading, they will be able to assess any other symptoms before making a full diagnosis.

If there are symptoms such as unusual irritability, unresponsiveness, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, dry skin, unusual thirst, seizure, loss of appetite, or changes in activity, you should immediately contact a doctor or an emergency facility regardless of whether the thermometer shows green, yellow or red.

Braun’s new ThermoScan® 7 ear thermometer with Age Precision® (IRT6520)

Did you know there is now a new ear thermometer that offers this new Age Precision® Technology? Braun has further enhanced its thermometers with new Age Precision® technology. This latest feature from Braun has been introduced into its newly launched ThermoScan® 7 ear thermometer Age Precision® (IRT6520).
With its new ergonomic design and innovative features, the Braun ThermoScan® 7 ear thermometer with Age Precision® also features Braun’s innovative, patented pre-warmed tip and ExacTemp® guidance system, which made Braun the number one brand amongst doctors1. Whereas the tip of other thermometers can cool the area within the ear where the temperature is being measured, resulting in variable readings, the tip on the ThermoScan® 7 is pre-warmed before use, to ensure you enjoy professional accuracy that you can rely on, time and time again. The soft speculum and tip also ensures the thermometer is gentle and comfortable on a child’s ear. The ExacTemp® guidance system confirms when you have safely secured the thermometer in the correct position with a light and a beep, delivering an accurate reading in just a few seconds.

“An ‘elevated’ temperature indicates that you should monitor your child more closely for further rise or other symptoms. A ‘high’ temperature should alert you to talk to your doctor or take your child to a healthcare professional to get them checked if you can’t get advice promptly. The readings at which these instructions apply vary according to the age of the child, which is why Braun’s new ThermoScan® 7 (IRT6520) thermometer, with its Age Precision® technology, can be really useful and a great indicator of the best course of action to take.” Dr Ranj Sing, leading pediatrician

Ear thermometers work by measuring the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissue. Since the eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control centre in the brain, the ear accurately reflects the core body temperature. When the temperature rises, it is immediately detectable in the ear, which is why your child’s ear is an excellent site to measure temperature.

As well as being supplied in a case for convenient storage, the Braun ThermoScan® 7 has a new front panel display with big screen, night light feature and a memory function to store the last nine temperature readings. New BPA and latex-free disposable lens filters are also available. Designed so you can easily switch between users, each disposable lens filter helps to avoid cross contamination. Simply use the lens ejector to remove the filter and add a new one for each reading.
Available separately, the filters can be used with all models of Braun ThermoScan® IRT ear thermometers with 40 lens filters per box.

Did you know Braun offers the only thermometer with both no touch and touch function? A perfect combination of professional accuracy and gentleness when taking care of your child

Did you know that it is sometimes necessary to monitor a fever every hour or two? Regularly checking the temperature of a distressed or uncooperative child can make life stressful for you, as a parent. Waking a child through the night is also far from ideal, especially if you’ve just settled them to sleep, but it can often be essential to monitor fever during the early hours. With situations like this in mind, Braun has launched its new No touch + forehead thermometer.

Braun’s new No touch + forehead thermometer (NTF3000)

Offering breakthrough technology, the No touch + forehead thermometer is extremely accurate as well as gentle and easy to use. Measuring forehead temperature in less than two seconds, it’s the only thermometer available that offers a combination of ‘no touch’ and ‘touch’ technology. You are able to place it directly on your child’s forehead in ‘touch’ mode or hold it up to 5cm away in ‘no touch’ mode, safe in the knowledge that, with Braun’s reputation for excellence, the results will be equally reliably, delivering clinically-proven accuracy, every time.

Braun’s new No touch + forehead thermometer features an ultra-sensitive sensor with an innovative optical system. This new technology captures twice as much radiated heat than traditional forehead thermometers without an optical system3. In fact, the No touch + forehead thermometer is the only thermometer for sale to the public to use this technology. Additionally, the proximity sensor helps you to guide the thermometer onto your child’s forehead at the correct distance of up to 5 centimeters away.

“Making sure that your child gets plenty of rest is really important, not only because it helps them to recover, but it also eases the pressure on the rest of the family. This is especially the case in a younger child when you may wish to check their temperature more often in case it goes too high, but don’t want to disturb them too much. With Braun’s new No touch + forehead (NTF3000) thermometer, parents could get multiple, reliable readings easily without having to wake their child up.” Dr Ranj Sing, leading pediatrician

No touch technology is ideal for the whole family

The non-invasive, ‘no touch’ function with ‘no sound mode’ not only enables you to take a reading without disturbing a sleeping child, but also makes this thermometer an ideal choice for the whole family. The ‘no touch’ function helps to limit the risk of spreading germs and virtually eliminates the possibility of cross contamination amongst family members. While cleaning is recommended occasionally and after use in ‘touch’ mode, it can be used instantly in ‘no touch’ mode whenever you need it.

The simple colour indicator also makes interpreting the results simple. The screen displays green if no fever, yellow if the temperature is elevated and red alert for a possibly high fever. Audible beeps accompany the visual indicator for temperatures above 37.4 °C.
