Spare a thought for your feet this party season Friday 7 November 2014 PDF Print With the Christmas party season coming up we’ll soon be glammed up and slipping into our LBDs. But as you step into those leg lengthening killer high heels, spare a thought for your long suffering feet. Just ask around the office and you’ll find that many of us are self-conscious about how our feet look after years of wearing fashionable footwear. And we’re not alone. Some of our most glamorous celebrities are concealing bunions and hammertoes inside their Christian Louboutin heels. Years of high-life living in high rise and jet-setting stilettos have taken their toll on toes for Naomi Cambell, Victoria Beckham and Paris Hilton. Nigella Lawson was not shy in speaking of her double bunion operation either. Twenty years ago, a 3-inch heel was considered to be high and worn mainly for special occasions. These days 3 inches is no more than a medium heel, and heels of 5 inches or more can be standard everyday wear for some of us. Leading Foot and ankle consultant Mr Pete RosenfeldMr Pete Rosenfeld, spoke to us about some of the issues that this creates. “With more women wearing higher heels, for longer periods of time, there has been an increase in long-term foot damage. This can range from developing a tight Achilles to progressive toe deformities such as hammer toes and bunions, to nerve entrapment (Mortons neuroma) and even stress fractures.” He explained that many of the problems - which can occur at the same time - are caused by the increased pressure high heels put on the ball of the foot and crowding of the toes. The higher the heel, the greater the pressure. “Once a part of the foot becomes painful, the natural tendency is to walk differently to avoid the pain and this can develop into a learned gait that can cause problems on its own. A vicious cycle of foot problems” For more advice from Mr Pete Rosenfeld, with background information on foot problems, prevention and treatment of foot and ankle conditions, contact Felicity or Harriet on 0203 195 2434 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org http://www.fortiusclinic.com/index.php This press release was distributed by ResponseSource Press Release Wire on behalf of Fortius Clinic in the following categories: Health, Women's Interest & Beauty, Retail & Fashion, for more information visit http://pressreleasewire.responsesource.com/about.
