According to figures, the Australian residential population consists of 1.1 million UK-born migrants

The reaction follows a report by the Expat Forum that details a recent survey highlighting the nationalities of migrants in Australia and the benefits prospective movers can expect to find should they relocate to the country.

According to figures, the Australian residential population consists of 1.1 million UK-born migrants, the largest percentage of foreign nationals in the country. This is over twice the amount of the country with the second-largest number, New Zealand, with 483,000. Combined with expatriates from China (319,000), India (295,000), Italy and Vietnam (both 185,000), they account for almost 50 per cent of the country’s immigrant population and as a result all have strong communities in cities across the nation.

The survey also identified the fact that many of these migrants had settled in Australia decades ago, and have become well-established parts of the fabric of society. On average, the length of each stay of residence was twenty years, indicating a strong sense of satisfaction with the quality of life available in the country. For those who have emigrated from Europe, the stay is even longer with an average tenure of their residence often being in excess of forty years.

Sydney has the largest population of those born overseas in the whole country, and as a result has established itself as a hub for many organisations, such as higher education institutions and multinational corporations that capitalise on the influx of talented professionals that relocate there every year.

A spokesperson for Interdean, experts in international relocation, has released a statement following the news. “For many potential expatriates, one of the major things to consider is the question of cultural integration and assimilation.

“Australia’s strong migrant communities, many of which have been well established for generations, mean that the country is extremely well suited to those who move there from all over the world. The results of this survey demonstrate clearly that Australia is as popular as ever among expatriates, and has the infrastructure to support people of all ages who decide to relocate there.”
