Brits waste over £1bn every year on unredeemed or lost gift cards and gift vouchers.

Quick pitch:

Earlier in the year it was claimed that approx 6% of gift vouchers go unredeemed, a more recent survey by Zeek revealed that this figure is actually much higher. With the UK gift card and voucher industry estimated at a worth of £5bn, Brits could be wasting over a billions per year on unredeemed gift cards and vouchers. It’s now time to stop the waste and sell your unwanted gift vouchers for cash.

Zeek is a new mobile app that allows people to sell unwanted gift cards and vouchers using their smartphone, and buy ones they want at a discounted price.

London, UK – November 13, 2014 – The countdown to Christmas is on. The streets are lined with lights and John Lewis has just aired its new festive themed advert. With only six weeks left until the big day, shopping for many has already begun. But it’s not all about spending money, there are ways to make cash too - simply sell all your unused gift cards and gift vouchers from last year.

There are some things that are traditional at Christmas such as turkey, crackers and new socks. There are also the thousands of gift cards and vouchers that are given to family and friends each year and with many going unredeemed, us Brits are wasting £millions, if not £billions because of it.

Daniel Zelkind, CEO of Zeek, a new mobile marketplace app said, “Our recent survey had some quite shocking results. Most people receive between 1-5 gift cards or vouchers per year, yet our survey showed that 47% of those people left them to expire or lost them. This means the figure of wasted money could be over £1bn and that’s a lot of cash to trash.”

It seems men are the most wasteful too with 51% of those included in the survey not using gift card and vouchers they receive. Yet when asked, 65% said they would rather sell the gift card or voucher for cash, and would even sell it at less than face value. So why are we losing £bn’s?

This is the problem Zeek is now helping to solve. The free app for iPhone and Android allows UK shoppers to sell their gift card and vouchers for cash. All they need to do is scan the card or voucher, add details, select the discount, and then make it available to other people who may be interested in buying it. It’s efficient, easy-to-use and convenient - ideal for those who want to make ‘quick cash’ before or after Christmas.

With many of the gift cards and vouchers having on average a 20% discount, Zeek is a great place to purchase gift cards for yourself, friends and family too.

Zeek can be downloaded free from the App Store and Google Play.
