London – 17th November, 2014 - Pocket App, the UK’s largest independent app developer, is proud to announce the release of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) War Graves app. Available immediately on iOS, Android and Windows, the app has been designed to help users find and visit places of remembrance at more than 23,000 locations across 153 countries.

The interactive app, developed in collaboration with Authored Apps and the Commission, will effectively aid anybody planning to visit any of the war cemeteries by providing directions to war graves, locally, internationally and globally, and will also enable users to access and download images of war cemeteries and memorials.

Paul Swaddle, CEO Pocket App comments: “It’s particularly poignant as not only was it Armistice Day last week but it is also the centenary of the outbreak of World War One and so there is a marked increase in the number of people who want to commemorate the 1,700,000 servicemen and women of the Commonwealth forces who died during the two world wars. This app will prove beneficial for anyone from enthusiasts, to history students or even family researchers, as it will make locating, visiting and accessing war cemeteries far easier.”

David Lamb, Authored Apps founding partner and Publisher said: “It has been a real pleasure to design and publish such a compelling and useful app in partnership with the Commission in the build-up to an extraordinary commemorative period. Pocket App has proved the perfect development partner.”

The CWGC is an intergovernmental organisation of six independent member states whose principal function is to mark, record and maintain the graves and places of commemoration of Commonwealth of Nations military service members who died in the two World Wars.

Peter Francis, Commonwealth War Graves Commission Media and Marketing Manager said:
“This is an amazing app for anyone interested, not just in the World Wars, but history in general. Casualties of the two world wars are commemorated by the CWGC in every corner of the globe – from the mud of the old Western Front in Europe, to the scorched deserts of North Africa, to the jungles of the Far East. With this new App individuals can find directions to cemeteries or use the ‘near me’ function to see what sites are in their vicinity – never before has it been easier to find these places of remembrance locally and internationally.”

Download the app, iTunes Google Play Windows, to enable you to search for and find directions to war graves both in your vicinity and internationally, download hundreds of image galleries and access authoritative CWGC information about any war grave site wherever you are.
