Whether your business is just starting out, or has been running for years, investing in appropriate security will ensure your livelihood remains safe

Leading provider of commercial security, AlertSystems, has reported on a robbery in Gloucestershire, where more than half-a-ton of specialist dog food was stolen from Toughmutts.

Toughmutts Country Supplies in Staunton was the victim of a night time raid. Michelle Hawkins, who only opened the store less than ten months ago, suspects that the burglary occurring on Sunday November 2nd was planned well in advanced.

On arrival at the store on the Monday morning, Hawkins noticed a total of 46 sacks of feed, as well as a number of dog leads and harnesses, worth in excess of £3,000, were missing from the shelves. The business owners stated: “This is a new business venture for us. We are supposed to be in a community minded village. I have been working here seven days per week and I am not drawing a wage yet.

“All of our money has gone into this business and around £3,000 worth of stock has been taken. This is upsetting because it is a family business. My partner and I have been working very hard to build this up and we were looking forward to having our first Christmas here,” she said.

It is believed that the culprits crossed farmland before reversing through a hedge at the rear of the store. This was in order to avoid being spotted on CCTV at Staunton Garden Centre where the business is based. A total of 46, 15kg sacks, weighing a total of 690kg, were stolen in the raid.

Police investigating the burglary also made a statement: “We know that burglars will target stores that are close to or back on to fields, so we would urge business owners to be aware and strengthen security wherever they can to avoid the same fate.”

As experts in business security, AlertSystems takes a keen interest in industry related news. A spokesperson from the company said the following: “For businesses that are just starting out, being burgled can be a devastating blow, especially if no investment has been made into business security. It is easy for many businesses to feel reassured by a friendly community and low-crime rate statistics.

“However, every business is in danger of being the target of criminal activity, but end-to-end CCTV and security systems decrease this threat significantly. Whether your business is just starting out, or has been running for years, investing in appropriate security will ensure your livelihood remains safe.”
