CEMS announces Professor Andrea Sironi as Chairman of global business school alliance

Andrea Sironi, professor of Finance and Rector of Università Bocconi in Italy, is to be named Chairman of the CEMS global alliance, at a ceremony in Brussels this weekend. Professor Sironi was nominated for the position by a committee of academic, corporate and social representatives from the CEMS network.

Roland Siegers, Executive Director of the CEMS programme says,

“We needed someone visionary yet able to diplomatically forge compromises in a multicultural group such as the CEMS alliance, especially going forward in our strategy for a more global association.”

Established in 1988 by four leading European business schools; Università Bocconi, ESADE, HEC Paris and the University of Cologne, the CEMS Alliance pioneered the first multi-partner business education network by offering a joint Masters in International Management degree across four countries.

Today, CEMS is a global alliance comprising 29 of the world’s most prestigious business schools, more than 60 multinational employers and four social partners. Its Master’s in International Management programme allows students to travel between member schools and countries for their studies, equipping them with the skills to succeed in international markets. It has consistently placed within the top 10 of the Financial Times rankings for the past nine years.

Professor Sironi will be sworn in as Chairman at CEMS’ annual meeting on 29th November. The ceremony will mark 26 years since the CEMS alliance was formed, and will be part of a three-day event which brings the entire alliance together. The event will be hosted by the Louvain School of Management, in Brussels.

Professor Sironi says,

“I am very honoured about this mandate which I accept with great enthusiasm, both personally and as a representative of one of the founding members of the network. Ever since its foundation, CEMS has played a unique role as a forerunner of future trends and innovation in management education within the global arena. It is a great responsibility and a privilege to serve such an organization, which gathers excellences from all around the world.”

Also included in the festivities will be the addition the European Space Agency to the alliance as CEMS’ first ‘Knowledge Partner’, as well as the graduation of 1010 CEMS Masters in International Management students – a record number.
