the survey highlighted a number of reasons why British expats in Switzerland felt their adopted country of residence was perfectly suited to them.

The reaction follows a report in The Local, an English language Swiss news publication, detailing a survey conducted by HSBC that investigated the best destination for British expatriates throughout the world.

After questioning a total of 9,300 people working in various sectors across the world, mostly aged between 35 and 54, the survey highlighted a number of reasons why British expats in Switzerland felt their adopted country of residence was perfectly suited to them. Reasons such as a better work-life balance, a family-centric culture and the abundance of outdoor activities all came up frequently in the responses of those surveyed.

A more stable financial situation was also cited as a major benefit of living in the European country. The survey included questions regarding the expats’ salary, savings and their perception of the local economy; all these were factored into larger questions concerning the overall quality of life in the country and important issues such as healthcare and education.

Overall, Switzerland emerged a clear winner. British expats felt that they could place trust and confidence in the economy, as well as benefiting from an improved quality of life and the more substantial salaries on offer. Over 25 per cent of Swiss-based expats said they were able to earn over 157,000 euros per year, the equivalent of just over £124,000.

As experts in the field of international relocation and a company that keep abreast of important issues in within the expatriate community, a spokesperson for Interdean has released a statement following the report. ‘The huge range benefits of relocating to Switzerland have inspired expats to move there for decades and it is fantastic to see that the country can still boast such widespread appeal.

‘What many people often forget is that internationally relocating is more than just a question of work or new surroundings. As well as these important attributes, many expats need to consider the availability of healthcare, and the standard of education should they have families themselves. Overall, Switzerland is one of the few countries that can boast a quality of life that appears to be improving year upon year for the expatriate community – something we believe will continue long into the future.’
