Katie Hopkins tops the ‘Dishonours List’ as Bluffer’s names 2014’s Ten Worst Mannered People Friday 19 December 2014 PDF Print "There isn't a single person in the UK who Katie Hopkins hasn't offended this year," Thomas Drewry, Bluffer's Guides. Katie Hopkins, the former reality TV contestant turned newspaper columnist has been awarded first place in the inaugural ‘Dishonours List’ by publisher The Bluffer’s Guides® for her “dogged persistence to offend everyone” she could in 2014. Hopkins has hit headlines on an almost weekly basis this year for her strident and often offensive views on everything from ‘common’ children’s names to sexual politics. As such she has topped Bluffer’s ‘Dishonours List’ over stiff competition from a selection of other people considerably richer, more powerful and more famous than a mere runner-up on BBC1’s The Apprentice. In second place comes Canadian pop-star sensation turned superbrat Justin Bieber who, in the past twelve months, has lost his cool and his sense of perspective almost as many times as he has lost his shirt. Just behind Bieber come two reliably offensive Brits. In third place is Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson. While no stranger to a controversial opinion, Clarkson hit a new low this summer after using not one but two racial slurs while filming the hit series Top Gear. Meanwhile in fourth place is Piers Morgan, the man so disliked by the general public that his key contribution to the Scottish independence referendum was to promise to leave the country in exchange for a ‘no’ vote. Staying on a political note, in equal fifth place come Mark Reckless and Douglas Carswell, the MPs who double-crossed their colleagues in Parliament by crossing the floor to join UKIP from the Conservative party. The bottom half of Bluffer’s Top Ten shows numerous dishonourable mentions from the worlds of politics, celebrity and TV. In seventh place is controversial (and now ‘deceased’) comedian Dapper Laughs, whose sexist antics drew the ire of Twitter in November. In eighth place is Conservative MP Nadine Dorries. She has offended many with her political views over the years but added literary critics to her list of enemies in 2014 following the publication of her universally panned novel, The Four Streets. Ninth and tenth places went respectively to Gary Busey, whose bad manners disgusted audiences and contestants alike when he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and Mahzer Mahmoud, the former ‘fake sheikh’ whose practices were unveiled in a BBC documentary. The ‘Dishonours List’ is awarded by the publisher of iconic 5-million-bestselling series, The Bluffer’s Guides®, which includes the handbook for good manners and good breeding, The Bluffer’s Guide to Etiquette. Bluffer’s decision to award Katie Hopkins recognises her tireless commitment to showing the British public how not to comport themselves in public. Bluffer’s resident etiquette expert and author of the Bluffer’s Guide to Etiquette William Hanson, commented: “Ms. Hopkins may well be a self-confessed social climber, but her dogged persistence to offend everyone certainly isn’t helping her up the ladder. Good etiquette is all about putting people at their ease, so by this measure alone Ms. Hopkins was the perfect recipient for this award.” As the first person to top the Dishonours List, Hopkins will receive a specially engraved trophy from Bluffer’s and the offer to turn over a new leaf. Bluffer’s will also give Ms. Hopkins the gift of a free consultation with etiquette expert William Hanson to help her turn her choose courtesy over rudeness. Chief Bluffing Officer Thomas Drewry concluded: “If 2014 has been a year marked by terrible manners online and off, Ms. Hopkins has tirelessly sought to lower the bar. By our calculations, her pronouncements on everyone from Gemma Collins to netball players mean there isn’t a person in the UK who she hasn’t offended this year. As such she was the standout choice when we came to give our first doling out the honours on our first ‘Dishonours List’.” "There isn't a single person in the UK who Katie Hopkins hasn't offended this year," Thomas Drewry, Bluffer's Guides.
