Leading providers of business security, AlertSystems, have reported on the recent burglary of a children’s playzone in Neath. Foodbank donations were stolen after a break-n over the weekend.

Kidz Korner is a popular party and day out venue for those with young children in the Melincryddan area. Owner, Ceri Hardman, is said to be shocked by the incident that occurred just at the start of her maternity leave. It is believed that the venue was broken into in the early hours of the Saturday morning. The culprits were filmed by the CCTV at the premises.

After arriving on the premises later on Saturday morning, staff members noticed unclosed doors and a smashed window. After being advised not to go in, staff and owner all waited for the arrival of the police. Hardman stated that this was the first time in two years that she had to deal with such an incident. However, she added that someone had tried to gain entry via the fire door the previous Sunday.

The thieves took a £50 float from the tills, a hoover, penny sweets and gift wrapped mugs. Hardman commented: “This worst thing is they also went through the food bin that we collect for Neath Food Bank and took food from that.”

Upon hearing the news, a spokesperson from AlertSystems made the following statement: “The recent robbery at Kidz Korner playzone highlights the fact that all types of business are at risk of robbery. Despite the fact that the business in Neath did not have many high value products or equipment on site, it was still targeted for burglary.

“However, the burglars may be apprehended faster as the entire event was recorded on the CCTV installed on the premises. This will be an enormous help to the police, particularly with the public appeal. Mrs. Hardman stated that due to social media, the images have been seen by 15,000 people online.

“In future, an application of tighter security measures may be beneficial for Kidz Korner. Businesses without many high value products on site may not expect to be play host to intruders. No matter what the business, it is crucial to implement effective access security to protect your property from criminals.”
