Hyperlocal success story, independent publishing start-up So Publishing has unveiled a second online title in its growing regional media empire.

Eight years since the launch of flagship entertainment title SoGlos – still hailed as one of the only commercially sustainable regional online magazines – today sees the launch of a brand new title for Gloucestershire, SoGlosWeddings ( - covering the Gloucestershire weddings industry.

In addition to upholding the same editorial quality, readership influence and commercial viability as its forerunner, SoGlosWeddings will reach a targeted new audience for the company, and bolster its business model further.

Beautifully combining all the inspiration of a glossy bridal magazine with an indispensably informative wedding website, the new online title has been created to help brides – and a good smattering of grooms – make decisions about every aspect of their dream wedding in Gloucestershire.

Following the same tried-and-tested publishing model as SoGlos, the new title will be updated daily by a small team of in-house journalists, producing original editorial news, listicles, guides, features, real weddings and more, with content pushed out through the website, a monthly email newsletter and all-important social media.

The new online magazine is the result of a two-year long project and will again be completely self-funded through advertising revenue, with a number of native advertising opportunities offered alongside more conventional directory-style and display advertising services.

Gloucestershire wedding venues, bridalwear boutiques, jewellers, photographers, hair stylists, stag party companies and honeymoon suppliers will form the core advertiser base, with founders Michelle and James Fyrne anticipating SoGlosWeddings will become the market leader in less than 12 months – overtaking local print-focused platforms from Archant and Local World.

‘There’s never been a better time for a digital-only wedding platform in the regions, with more than 91 per cent of brides doing their wedding planning online,’ said editor Michelle Fyrne.

SoGlosWeddings is powered by the same in-house content management system as SoGlos and new content can quickly and easily be published in a matter of seconds. Showcasing large magazine-style images and stylish typography, the user experience is paramount and the new site is also responsive to tablets and mobile devices.

While the large regional media publishing houses still continue to struggle with how to make digital profitable, SoGlosWeddings’ founders are confident they’ve developed a winning formula. ‘We punch well above our weight in the arts and entertainment field and are now set to redefine the local wedding media landscape,' said James Fyrne, publisher.

'Content remains king and our specialist titles are designed specifically for their audience, responding quickly to market developments and proving digital can work.’

Fyrne is also confident now is the time to explore strategically rolling out the two-title model to other areas: ‘We’re often asked about whether we plan to expand the SoGlos model into other counties or cities, but getting SoGlosWeddings off the ground has been our focus for the past two years.

'Now, with two market-leading digital publishing titles fully developed, we’re certainly going to be exploring moving further afield.'
