Ukash survey reveals 40% of women book holidays to combat seasonal doldrums

London, 19th January 2015 – With today now officially known as ‘Blue Monday’ new research from the Ukash Travel Money Prepaid MasterCard card reveals that more women across the UK suffer from the winter blues than men. It appears that women eat and sleep more in the winter compared to men, and 40% book a holiday to combat the blues, in contrast to just 27% of men.

The figures show that a significant majority (62%) of women say they eat more in winter, but only 50% of men say the same. In addition, 56% of women sleep more at this time of year, compared to just 44% of men taking to their bed.

“Our research shows that women tend hibernate as winter comes, so it’s no surprise that they are more likely than men to be proactive about beating the winter blues,” explains James Allum, Chief Commercial Officer at Ukash. “According to our analysis, 40% of women booked a holiday for later in the year or took a winter break, compared to just 27%.of men.”

Almost 10% of respondents said they made arrangements in December for a break early in the new year, with 15% leaving it to the last minute to book a break. However, 63% don’t plan on taking a holiday between January and March.

“According to our research the biggest reason for not booking a trip away was because people couldn’t decide where to go or because they want to save for a bigger holiday, later in the year”, continued James Allum.
