Expats Cause Large Increase in Switzerland’s Population Monday 26 January 2015 PDF Print This meant that there were 1.9 million expats in this central European country at the end of 2013 Switzerland’s attractiveness has been underlined by a majority of their population increase being because of expats, demonstrating the country’s huge appeal for citizens of other European countries. Interdean has responded to figures published by the Swiss federal office of statistics (BFS). Switzerland’s population increase was due to a rise in the number of expats living there in 2013, according to the BFS. There was a rise of 1.3 per cent to their population with two-thirds of the extra 100,600 residents being foreign immigrants, reflecting the huge appeal living in Switzerland brings. This meant that there were 1.9 million expats in this central European country at the end of 2013. Switzerland had the second largest growth of inhabitants in Europe - coming second to Italy following research by Eurostat. BFS believe 66 per cent of Swiss expats came from other European countries with Italian and German settlers reaching 15 per cent each. Switzerland’s popularity is highlighted by the fact that expats now make up 23.8 per cent of their total population which rose to 8.14 million in 2013. This proportion increased by 0.5 per cent since 2012, demonstrating this beautiful country’s consistent appeal to all sorts of nationalities. A spokesperson for Interdean, leaders in international relocation, responded to the release of Switzerland’s figures.
