Heathrow airport have stated they are setting aside £700m as compensation to homeowners

Leading providers of glazing services, Montrose Glass, have commented on the recent news regarding Heathrow’s contribution towards residents’ noise insulation costs. If the new runway goes ahead, the fund will increase from £250m to £700m.

Heathrow airport have stated they are setting aside £700m as compensation to homeowners who will be affected by the proposed third runway. The new package is set to include double glazing, ceiling over-boarding in bedrooms and also loft insulation. The fund boost is due to two new zones being drawn up to highlight those affected by noise under the existing flight paths and by the new runway. There is already a compensation scheme in place that covers around 40,000 households, but these homes may now be able to claim under the new proposals.

Around 160,000 home are potentially eligible for compensation in the Berkshire, Surrey and London areas. With the new funds in place, some homes will be able to claim back the full costs of double glazing and noise insulation, others who are further out could receive around £3,000. However, a free third-party assessment will be carried out in order to determine the extent of each home’s needs within their eligible zones. The airport are said to have improved their offer due to feedback received during public consultations throughout last year.

As experts in double glazing, Montrose Glass takes a keen interest in industry related news. A spokesperson from the company made the following statement: “The potential developments at Heathrow airport are likely to be an inconvenience to thousands of homes in that area in terms of noise pollution. Planes are notoriously a huge disturbance, especially in those homes that do not have the correct noise insulation.

“Those eligible for the proposed noise insulation fund should take advantage of the opportunity. High-quality double glazing can drastically reduce noise pollution, and is a much cheaper solution than moving home. Ensuring a professional and highly qualified glazier company has been chosen to carry out the work, double glazing could make all the difference when it comes to dealing with the new runway at Heathrow.”
