Poor Electrical Supply and Rising Costs Cause Difficulties for Nigerian Printing Firm Monday 16 February 2015 PDF Print work which would take around two hours to complete ends up taking around five times as long Cambrian Printers, UK-based printing company with over 150 years of experience, react to news of TMS Print’s problems in Abuja’s Garki district which has frustrated and limited the work its employees can do. A Nigerian print company have had some problems including poor electricity which is seriously undermining the productivity of their workforce at no fault of its employees. An investigation by national newspaper Daily Trust found that the majority of people they interviewed complained about the lack of light due to limited supply from the electricity company. As a result, work which would take around two hours to complete ends up taking around five times as long according to Rasheed Soyinka, a worker at TMS Print. Chairman of the Abuja Printers' Forum, Gabriel Adediji, said: "The problem of electricity is biting very hard but effort is being made to tackle it. There is the challenge of lack of patronage from the government. Investing in printing business is capital intensive but the government is not helping us to acquire the machines. "When you struggle on your own and go to mortgage home and acquire these machines, the government is not patronising us. They prefer taking their work abroad and we have the equipment and capacity to deliver as and when due." A spokesperson for UK printing company Cambrian Printers released the following statement after hearing about the Nigerian firm’s issues for its workers. They said: “Some businesses in England and Scotland were without power for around a week last year due to gale force winds and heavy snowfall, but TMS Print appears to have consistent electrical supply problems. “We ensure that the conditions of our workplace are as helpful and conducive to high productivity as possible, because skilled and satisfied staff leaves no excuses for failing to cope with customer demand.
