The two incidents we have seen in Scotland highlight exactly why high-definition CCTV cameras are absolutely vital in this day and age

The reaction comes following a high-profile raid at a cash handling depot in Aberdeenshire where tens of thousands of pounds were stolen by a group of thieves believed to be linked to a previous incident only weeks before.

According to the report, the thieves managed to escape the Loomis depot on the Altens Industrial Estate with more that £65,000 in their possession – making the heist one of the biggest in Scotland’s recent history. CCTV installed on the premises shows the culprits leaving the scene in three separate cars that have since been discovered abandoned in the Altens and Cove village near to the site.

Police have reason to believe that the same group are also responsible for an offence at a Morrisons store in nearby Bachory on January 21st, where £10,000 was stolen by force from a cash machine. Similar tactics were used, as the thieves broke into the shop by breaking the windows and then escaped using another stolen vehicle.

Detective Inspector Brian Geddes described the Loomis raiders as an “organised group of people”, due to the fact that “they have come equipped to come into a premises like this. No weapons were involved, no threats made.”
