An eight-year-old from Hemel Hempstead won a £250 voucher for his school, as well as winning an art set for himself, after winning the Marlowes Shopping Centre ‘Love is…’ competition. William Berry from The Reddings Primary School was chosen as the winner out of 800 entries from nine different schools for a piece that was dedicated to his family. The artwork submitted by William and hundreds of other children with artistic talent were exhibited in Marlowes Shopping Centre on Valentine’s Day. Local artist Kelly Pedlar judged the competition alongside centre manager Vince Williams, who stated: “The winning entry had instant appeal, with lovely colours, lots of effort and clever use of collage.” The Reddings’ art subject teacher Jenny Howard said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition and we were delighted with the huge response and the enthusiasm by the children.” Manager of Marlowes, Mr Williams, added: “We had a fantastic response to the competition, with the standard consistently high from all of the schools.” As experts in art and design equipment, Graphics Direct takes a keen interest in art community news. A spokesperson from the company made the following statement: “It is always fantastic to hear about successful community art projects. It is important that communities take the opportunity to promote and inspire creativity in the younger generation. Giving kids a chance to create unique artwork and be in with a chance to win a prize is a great way to get schools involved. We hope that the young budding artist enjoys his new art set and continues to develop his artistic skills.” With over 20 years’ experience in the graphics industry, Graphics Direct is a leading online shop where you can find Graphics Equipment online.
