ICE highlights how the best value will be found in Eastern Europe

With the Pound against the Euro now offering 1.3433 , representing a 7 year high, ICE – International Currency Exchange, the leading travel money provider, is urging travellers planning a trip to the Eurozone this year, to buy their Euros now and consider locking in the rate using a prepaid card. ICE has seen the number of orders for Euros jump 125% on January last year and Euro order values rise by 20.73% from £856.90 to £1034.51. In addition, the number of loads to its Euro Travellers Cashcard have risen by 23% on January 2014 as travellers rush to lock in the rates. The ICE Travellers Cash Card, a PIN-protected Mastercard® prepaid currency card, is the only prepaid currency card on the market to offer 1.5% cashback on purchases.

ICE is also highlighting that holidaymakers will find their money go even further in the Eastern European countries that have recently joined the Eurozone including Latvia and Lithuania which joined in January, where cost of living is still relatively low. For example, a pint of beer in Lithuania is around £1.20 compared to £3-£4 at home and £4.66 in France.*

Koko Sarkari, COO of ICE said: “Those heading to the Eurozone will find their money going further than at any time in almost 7 years so it makes sense to take advantage of the rates on offer. Even if the Euro does weaken further, travellers are still getting a good deal at today’s rates compared to a year ago. No one can predict how rates will move, but a good way to hedge your bets is to load money to a prepaid card in the lead up to a holiday. That means if the Euro starts to strengthen closer to the departure date, the rate on the card will average out at a better rate than if you had put all your eggs in one basket and bought currency just before your holiday.

“More and more holidaymakers are getting wise to this tactic - as rates have improved, the volume of cash being loaded to our prepaid Euro currency card has gone up too.”

The ICE Euro and US Dollar Travellers Cashcards are free to order if the first load is £700 or over, free to use for ATM** withdrawals, with no penalties for inactivity, and no fees for top ups by debit card or bank transfer. With rates fixed at the time the money is loaded, ICE Travellers Cashcards offer travellers a secure and convenient method of payment overseas and, when they get home, a 7 day same rate buy-back guarantee***.

Koko Sarkari concludes: “Prepaid cards really are the smart way to travel and the ICE Travellers Cashcard gives travellers peace of mind, convenience and cost-savings so they can get on and enjoy their time abroad”.
