Art Projects Bring Together Milton Keynes Community, Graphics Direct Reports Tuesday 10 March 2015 PDF Print We’re trying to get the community to come together and that is the whole point of this project. We want a big representation of the area here Leading providers of art equipment, Graphics Direct, have commented on the recent news regarding an art project in Milton Keynes that has started to get people into the community spirit. Area youth worker of Milton Keynes Council, Norman Cummings, believes that the eastern flank area of the city needs a project to rally around. In order to inspire some community spirit, Mr Cummings is hoping that art could be the way forward. He is planning to run weekly art sessions at Broughton Pavilion every Wednesday, and has predicted around 50 people will turn up to the sessions. Everyone will have work displayed on a board within the pavilion after completion. Mr Cummings stated: “We’re trying to get the community to come together and that is the whole point of this project. We want a big representation of the area here and let people know that there is much more for people to get involved with rather than just hanging around on the streets.” The weekly sessions will offer a wide variety of art types including painting, drawing and many other forms. At the end of the 12-week project, Mr Cummings aims to have a formal celebration and unveiling of the artwork. As experts in art equipment, Graphics Direct takes a keen interest in community art projects. A spokesperson from the company made the following statement: “It is always fantastic to hear about community art projects that are inspiring individuals to identify with their local area. Art has always been a fantastic way to bring people together, and it will likely continue to be a valuable tool for communities. With the right equipment to hand, councils can do a lot to boost arts and culture throughout their cities and towns. We hope that the people of Milton Keynes create a successful art project that will inspire and unite the community.
