A study has shown that car manufacturers who offer long warranties don’t always give motorists the best deals.

A recent study has revealed that car manufacturers who offer longer warranties might not be giving motorists the best value for money. A Click4Warranty spokesperson responds to the report.

A study has shown that car manufacturers who offer long warranties don’t always give motorists the best deals. Mitsubishi, Renault, Subaru, Hyundai and Kia now offer warranties that range from four to seven years from the initial purchase date of a new vehicle, but on closer inspection there are big discrepancies between advertised cover and time elapsed.

Many longer warranties from car manufacturers now enforce mileage restrictions and exclude complex components and failures classified under ‘wear and tear’. Mitsubishi’s five year warranty is subject to a strict mileage cap of just 62,500, while Renault, Subaru, Hyundai and Kia all cap mileage at 100,000.

The ‘wear and tear’ policy for new Kias outlines restrictions based on mileage, saying that the gradual wearing of mechanical components in proportion to mileage is not covered. Elsewhere Subaru’s five year warranty could leave owners exposed and after year three only the powertrain is covered, which is defined as the engine, transmission and driveline. After the third year Subaru’s cover excludes all steering components apart from the power steering pump and all air-conditioning parts other than the compressor.
