Two thieves broke into the vegetarian bistro in Ayr and spent a total of five hours inside the restaurant. The pair can be seen in the CCTV footage wandering aimlessly around the restaurant in search of valuable goods. The high-quality CCTV with night vision function shows their faces in plain sight as they do not make any attempt to conceal their identity. The cameras captured a variety of footage at close range and at long distance.

After wandering around, one of the criminals even decides to brandish a knife and talk to himself in the mirror. The cameras also showed the pair rummaging through the empty tills and examining some of the furniture. After breaking in at around 7:20pm in a raid that lasted a number of hours, the criminals only made off with £2.50 and a selection of vegan sweets. The police have now released sections of the footage as part of a public appeal.

As experts in CCTV security, AlertSystems takes a keen interest in relevant industry news. A spokesperson from the company made the following statement: “A break-in can be a distressing time for any small business. Knowing that criminals have entered your premises with ease during closing hours can be incredibly perturbing. However, it is incredibly fortunate both that the criminals did not steal any high value goods and that the Artisan Lounge had invested in high quality CCTV.

“The witless duo were captured on CCTV committing a relatively pointless crime, and circulating the CCTV footage on social media and online channels as part of a public appeal will help the police to identify the criminals. For small businesses such as the Artisan Lounge, security truly is a crucial investment in protecting to your livelihood. Without high-quality CCTV, businesses are left vulnerable. Applying the correct security measures from the start will save time and money in the long term.”
