Devon Team Sets Precedent for British Watersports, says Wetsuit Centre Tuesday 24 March 2015 PDF Print after a successful outing last year – coming fourth overall in France The reaction comes following an article in the North Devon Journal detailing the Devon Watersports team, who look to get their training for the upcoming Atlantic Watersports Games in Spain on track as we move into warmer weather. Lasting for a week during July of this year, the Games include a wide array of watersports across a number of disciplines, with all the ‘Atlantic-facing’ European nations set to take part. The Devon team are planning to take surfers, surf-lifesavers and sailors to the contest after a successful outing last year – coming fourth overall in France, a position that was their best ever and one that greatly exceeded their expectations going into the competition. The team’s participation has once again drummed up a lot of interest from the local community, as well as the watersports community as a whole. Rob Whitney, the team’s manager, has aimed high: "We've had great support from local companies and businesses in recent years and we hope to build on that. Our team of athletes have done our region proud and we hope to make the Spanish newspapers once again. A gold in surfing would be great." A spokesperson for Wetsuit Centre, one of the most prominent suppliers of watersports equipment in Britain, has released a statement following the report: “It’s fantastic to see that a watersports team from Britain is really making a mark on the European sports scene. “Their achievements in recent years are a testament to how far they have come, and indeed are a microcosm of the growing appeal that sports such as surfing and sailing are having in this country. Here at Wetsuit Centre, we have been providing equipment to people of all disciplines for a number of years and it is wonderful to see such progression manifest itself in tournament success. “Of course, the water may be getting warmer but that by no means removes the need for a high quality wetsuit while the team are training. Fortunately, the quality of product we have available here in-store will mean that anyone who is making the most of the brighter conditions will still remain insulated at all times.” Based in Bournemouth, Wetsuit Centre is the UK’s largest wetsuit and surfboard supplier. Dedicated water sports specialists, the company provide an extensive range of men’s, women’s and children’s wetsuits and accessories online.
