Staffordshire manufacturer set to launch national campaign to promote staying active in a wheelchair Tuesday 7 April 2015 PDF Print It’s really important to have an active lifestyle as a wheelchair user. Being active doesn’t just mean playing sports A Staffordshire based manufacturer of custom built wheelchairs is launching a national campaign to promote the benefits of staying active, particularly after injuries which result in limited mobility. Research* has shown that people that sustained physical injuries are among the most inactive and therefore most prone to physical illness and loss of mental health in society. RGK Wheelchairs will launch its ‘Play Life’ Campaign to encourage and inspire this group to take part in dynamic activities as a regular part of their healthy and active lifestyle choices. The benefits of regular physical activity are well documented and include weight management, improved mood, control and improvement of health conditions and diseases, not to mention considerably boosting energy levels. It is also vitally important to develop a network of peers to share experiences and ideas on how to manage a changed reality. Maintaining aspects of life that are interesting and challenging can create a renewed focus and drive. RGK embraces this ethos by removing the physical barriers to active life through its compact and lightweight product range, enabling more people to be inspired and indeed able to achieve their active lifestyle goals. The ‘Play Life’ campaign will be launched during Naidex National 2015 with a variety of special guests making an appearance including former mountain biking legend, Martyn Ashton, who will be talking to visitors of the RGK stand about the benefits of staying active in a wheelchair. Following Martyn’s accident in 2013 which left him with a spinal cord injury, he fully understands the need to keep active and healthy, as he explained to us: “It’s really important to have an active lifestyle as a wheelchair user. Being active doesn’t just mean playing sports or engaging in strenuous physical activities, it can just be getting out and about.” Martyn continued, “The ‘Play Life’ campaign is great because it encourages being active in a wide variety of ways and RGK has developed a series of solutions to cater for a diverse range of active lifestyles.” Building on the success of the multi award winning TigaFX which pioneered the way forward in compact travelling, RGK are now concentrating their efforts on creating a range of products that are interchangeable and fit together to provide a complete travel solution for all circumstances and abilities. RGK will be displaying its range of solutions for Naidex visitors to try out on its stand. They include products to support a variety of activities. In the run up to Naidex, the ‘Play Life’ campaign will run across RGK’s social media channels and dedicated microsite http://www.rgklife.com/playlife Naidex will take place at Birmingham’s NEC between 28-30 April 2015 and RGK will be on stand B90. - - - ENDS - - - * study by Van den Berg-Emons et al in 2008 * www.sane.org Notes to editors About RGK - Twenty-six years ago, RGK observed the wheelchair market and decided to change it radically, to provide each wheelchair user with the potential to live their life to the full with a chair fit for each individual purpose.
