Varnish Software continues to focus on performance with the expertise and the tools to make websites and API management ever faster

London – May 8th, 2015 - Varnish Software, the company behind the web performance engine Varnish Cache, today announced that it has been named one of this year's "Cool Vendors in Web-Scale Platforms" by Gartner, Inc. Gartner's annual research reports identify "Cool Vendors" in key areas of technology, evaluating these innovative vendors' products and services.

In the "Cool Vendors in Web-Scale Platforms, 2015" report(1) Gartner stated, “Organizations investing in digital business can be blind-sided by unexpected success. You may need to scramble to deal with new feature demands and scalability requirements. A number of vendors are working on technology to address what's known as the ‘C10K problem’ — i.e., how do you handle 10,000 concurrent connections? This year's Cool Vendors are applying innovative techniques, such as caching, event-driven programming, microservice architectures (MSAs) and container management frameworks, to solve this problem.”

Varnish Software is the company behind Varnish Cache, a widely trusted open source web accelerator that significantly enhances web performance for businesses online. Varnish powers major sites across all industry types—for businesses such as New York Times, Nikon, Transport for London, The White House and Vimeo as well as more than 2.3 million websites worldwide.

Varnish Plus is a commercial suite of Varnish Software’s subscription offerings and professional services, bundled into one package. Varnish Plus is designed to meet the most demanding scalability, customization, monitoring and expert support services of today’s infrastructures, with the flexibility and scale to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Varnish also recently introduced the Varnish API Engine, a tool for web-scale API initiatives that allows management of all APIs through one central point. Varnish API Engine’s core functionality is to authorize access to a website’s APIs after authenticating the client requesting access. What makes Varnish API Engine different from other API Management tools is that it can run these processes both fast and at a high rate—managing up to 20,000 API calls per second.

"It is an honor for Varnish Software to be recognized as one of Gartner's Cool Vendors helping to drive innovation and performance for web scale platforms,” said Per Buer, CTO and Founder of Varnish Software. “The last several years have brought an explosion in the use of HTTP-based APIs, and the Internet of Things is already offering a glimpse of just how much web platforms will need to scale in the future. Varnish Software continues to focus on performance with the expertise and the tools to make websites and API management ever faster, more scalable and reliable.”
