1,500 school children took part in the games over the course of the two days in a festival

The reaction comes following a report in the Oxford Mail detailing this year’s Sainsbury’s School Games Spring Festival that took place on April 16th and 17th in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

It is estimated that over 1,500 school children took part in the games over the course of the two days in a festival designed to celebrate both team and individual sports across a wide range of age groups, and were held over a number of locations in the region. The Manor Prep School, Tilsley Park, the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre, St. Katharine School and St. Helen Schools all participated this year in one of the biggest events to date.

With schools from all over the region sending out teams to compete in football, netball, swimming and hockey, all competing for the prestigious 2015 Oxfordshire Schools Champions title. The festival has also attracted some sporting royalty, with Pete Waterfield – a silver medal winner in diving at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens – making an appearance at the pool to support the swimmers.
A spokesperson for Team Colours, market leaders in personalised sporting wear, has released a statement following the report, stating: “It is fantastic to see such a huge turnout yet again for this year’s Oxfordshire School Games Spring Festival.

“Getting kids enthused about sport from a young age is so important, and the diversity, competition and overall enjoyment that events such as this are able to provide has an immeasurable impact on kids’ lives, often generating lifelong interests in their favourite sport.

“Here at Team Colours, we speak with so many people that have involvement in sports at a grass roots level and are aware how challenging it is to keep children and young adults interested for an extended period of time.

Festivals such as these set a wonderful precedent for the rest of the UK and we hope to see many more appear in the not too distant future.”
