REVEALED: ARE TODAY’S STUDENTS THE CLEANEST GENERATION YET? Wednesday 20 May 2015 PDF Print • New research released today reveals that 69% of adults aged 16-24 spend up to twelve hours per week doing laundry • Over half of Millennials wash towels between three and seven times a week • The research shows that almost ¾ of those aged between 16-24 do three loads or more of laundry per week with some doing up to seven loads a week • Sheffield, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Leeds and Yorkshire are the most clean conscious regions in the UK As GCSE exams get underway, A-levels creep around the corner and university students prepare for final exams, the pressure of revising may well be getting too much for some, with Millennials embracing a more therapeutic way of coping with the pressure. New research unveiled today reveals that those of school leaver age are now adopting laundry habits previously associated with the older generation. Parents of Millennials can breathe a sigh of relief as they won’t have to worry about the onslaught of student laundry when term time ends. The lifestyle study, conducted by Beko, the UK’s best-selling large home appliance brand shows that 69% of young adults aged between 16-24 are spending on average between three and twelve hours per week washing clothes, towels and bed linen in an effort to be the freshest they can be, with ¾ of those doing a minimum of three loads of laundry in an average week. Almost half of those at school leaver or university age (46%) are doing between three and seven towel loads of laundry in the average week, whilst over a third say they wash their bed sheets the same number of times. However, it seems that not all young adults are prioritising washing over revising for upcoming exams. A small minority continue to keep up with the typical ‘student’ stereotype, with 5% saying they don’t wash their clothes in an average week. The research also revealed that Sheffield, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Leeds and Yorkshire are amongst the cleanest regions in the country, with 20% of residents washing their clothes a staggering seven times a week or more. Commenting on the research, Brand Manager at Beko Shalika Hooda said, “Keeping your home clean doesn’t need to be time consuming. It’s really easy to get into a routine with household chores, but often appliances have lots of clever features, such as quick washes, or eco-friendly cycles that can save you time and money in the long term. Our 11kg washing machine can wash an entire team’s football kit in one go! It’s always worth having a look, and you never know you may find yourself conforming to some new habits!” -Ends- Media enquiries: Beko team at Mercieca E: firstname.lastname@example.org T: +44 207 485 0100 Customer Services Telephone Number: 0845 600 4904 Trade enquiry number: 01923 818 121 Website: www.beko.co.uk About Beko plc: Established in the UK in 1990, Beko plc is a subsidiary of large multinational group - KOÇ Holdings and the Arҫelik Group.
