Job availability across East Anglia dips by 7% Tuesday 26 May 2015 PDF Print Venn Group Contract Recruitment Index May 2015 “Monitoring contractor demand across East Anglia” Job availability across East Anglia dips by 7% Contract Recruitment Index highlights • Overall vacancies dip 7% month-on-month • Improvements to NHS facilities cause boom in public sector jobs market • Digital leading the way with candidates securing premium rates Job vacancies in East Anglia fall by 7% The May 2015 East Anglia Recruitment Index recorded a 7% month-on-month decline in job availability with 2,600 vacancies advertised, compared to 3,025 in March 2015. Avtar Singh, Associate Director of Venn Group, commented: “Despite the typical pre-election dip in the region’s hiring activity, the NHS has been a large source of recent employment for East Anglia. There has been an increase in transformation and cost improvement projects across acute, mental health, community and commissioning organisations in the run up to the election, providing many new openings for professionals. There have also been a number of technical and on-site projects as NHS organisations update their systems, infrastructures and facilities, meaning many contractors - particularly capital projects managers - are being snapped up.” Contractors gain in remuneration stakes as a result of increased demand The average rate for those securing jobs in April 2015 has risen since last month’s Index, with contractors now receiving an average of £273 per day across the region. Avtar Singh continued: “In other regional news, the IT and digital sector is currently thriving, with company heads of ICT earning over three times the average daily amount at £590 per day. As organisations across a broad range of sectors look to maximise and streamline their productivity in the coming financial year, professionals are being sought to review processes and implement these improvements. “April also brought a huge boom in demand for skilled tradespeople within public sector housing across the region as development and maintenance budgets were finalised and works began. We predict that this is likely to continue throughout the summer months whilst providers make the most of the fair weather to complete major works programmes.” ENDS Notes to editors Venn Group is the UK’s only specialist contract recruiter for organisations within the public and private sectors. www.venngroup.com Methodology The Recruitment Index uses Venn Group’s own weekly records of new contract job vacancies.
