Race organiser, Sweatshop has today revealed the 2016 Vitality Reading Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 3rd April 2016. The event will see thousands of runners lace up and take to the start line, with Cancer Research UK named as the official national charity partner of one of the most prestigious half marathons in the British running calendar.

The 33rd Reading Half Marathon will attract seasoned distance runners and thousands of newcomers to the running community. The world renowned course will lead runners from Green Park, through the beautiful grounds of Reading University and to a momentous finish inside Reading Football Club’s Madejski Stadium.

Judith Manson, Senior Operations Manager at Sweatshop, comments: “Because of great runner feedback from this year’s event, the 2016 route will remain the same - it’s flat, it’s fast and runners will start their race experience with the scenery of Green Park and finish with the momentous atmosphere of the Madejski Stadium. The 2016 race will be the perfect platform for so many runners - seasoned runners to set brand new personal best race times, those training for the London Marathon and newcomers to the running community. It promises to be another great year and with Cancer Research UK on board, the race will not only raise awareness of this disease, it will also provide the opportunity for runners to raise vital funds for families and friends who suffer from this illness.”

The selection process for the official charity partner of the 2016 Vitality Reading Half Marathon race saw charities present to race organisers on how they would maximise fundraising for the event. Cancer Research won the bid with their creative ideas that they hope will capture the imagination of runners and inspire friends, colleagues and relatives to do their bit for charity.

Helen Jackson, Head of Sports at Cancer Research UK, comments: “Our partnership with the 2016 Vitality Reading Half Marathon is a major achievement for Cancer Research UK. We hope to exceed all fundraising expectations and have a massively positive impact on cancer patients nationwide. We fund research into more than 200 types of cancer from the most common – such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate cancers – to rare types of tumour and children’s cancers, we support groundbreaking science that benefits everyone and by running the 2016 Reading Half Marathon, you will be taking steps to help us beat cancer sooner.”
