Job availability across the Midlands up 11% Monday 15 June 2015 PDF Print Venn Group Contract Recruitment Index June 2015 “Monitoring contractor demand across the Midlands” Job availability across the Midlands up 11% Contract Recruitment Index highlights • Overall vacancies rise 11% month-on-month • Boom in demand for NHS workforce planners to tackle staff shortages • Finance sector drives contractor demand • Hourly rates fall by 11% as the UK undergoes inflation Overall job availability increases by 11% The May 2015 Midlands Recruitment Index recorded an 11% month-on-month rise in job availability with 2,137 vacancies advertised, compared to 1,926 in April 2015. Avtar Singh, Associate Director of Venn Group, commented: “The Midlands, much like many other regions in the UK, has experienced a boom in the workforce planning and medical staffing arenas in light of recent staff shortages. In attempts to streamline spending, many trusts are also drafting in financial planning professionals to realign NHS budgets for the new financial year. In other news for the health sector, increased funding within mental health has seen a huge rise in demand for supported housing managers to oversee services provided to those with mental health needs and learning disabilities.” Contractors’ remuneration rates experience slight dip The average rate for those securing jobs in May 2015 was 11% lower than those recorded in April 2015, with contractors now receiving an average of £17 per hour across the region. This can be attributed in part to the levels of deflation the UK was experiencing, but looks set to pick up in the coming months. Avtar Singh continued: “Recent growth in other areas of the economy, combined with the Conservative majority win in the recent election, has reinforced the strength of the Midlands’ jobs market. One sector that is flourishing is the financial arena, with senior level professionals leading the way and often receiving multiple offers of employment as organisations compete for the top talent. This in turn is resulting in rates being pushed up – for example, a commissioning finance lead and financial planning officer in the Midlands can earn an average rate of £430 per day – well above the average day rate for contractors. So with this in mind, the future looks bright for the Midlands.” ENDS Notes to editors Venn Group is the UK’s only specialist contract recruiter for organisations within the public and private sectors. www.venngroup.com Methodology The Recruitment Index uses Venn Group’s own weekly records of new contract job vacancies.
