Red RouteMaster

This event should appeal to families and particularly children given the fun nature of the day.

The Bus Hound will be on display along with a new London Routemaster bus at Great Knollys Street on June 14. RedRoutemaster have spoken about the upcoming annual event, with the open day described on Get Reading’s website.

The fun day is free of charge and this includes shuttle bus travel to the event with food and drink available from a barbecue sponsored by local butchers. Games such as buses and ladders as well as face painting will also be available for all guests.

Martijn Gilbert, chief executive of Reading Buses said: "We really expect this achievement by one of our regular service buses to be an enormous attraction and bring in big crowds. Immediately after the record, the bus went back into service on routes in the Reading area and people who haven’t previously travelled on the vehicle have the chance to climb aboard – and sit in the driver’s seat of this now very famous bus.”

Money is being raised for Alzheimer’s Society and £4,000 was raised during the same event last year. Michelle Jordan from Heart FM will be playing a range of classic and commercial songs and a raffle for someone to win a driving experience on the quickest single decker will also take place.

The Bus Hound has achieved a top speed of 80.73 mph while running on Biomethane Compressed Natural Gas. Shuttle buses to the open day start in the town centre at 10.34 and are set to run until 4pm when the event closes.

A spokesperson for RedRoutemaster released a statement, they said: “This event should appeal to families and particularly children given the fun nature of the day. Buses are not solely useful for transporting people around the country, but because of their presence at days such as the Reading Open Day.
