145,000 jobs will be created in London over the next decade, according to a new report compiled by the Centre for Cities and Cambridge Econometrics

The reaction follows a new report which predicts that the job boom will continue in the capital, with the media industry a particular area that is expected to grow. A spokesperson from Harrison Dear provides a statement.

145,000 jobs will be created in London over the next decade, according to a new report compiled by the Centre for Cities and Cambridge Econometrics. The report states that £45billion was generated in economic output last year, and that is expected to grow by around £16billion over the coming decade.

The majority of output and job creation is expected to come from media, IT, insurance, finance and accounting. While big things are predicted for the capital, there are still some challenges it has to overcome. These include the lack of affordable housing in London, shortage of runway capacity at London’s airports and a need for suitably skilled workers. Growth could also be hampered by the uncertainty that comes with an in-out referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU.

“There are serious challenges ahead for policy makers – we cannot let potentially limiting factors such as housing and transport for the City’s workers, lack of aviation capacity, inadequate broadband provision, or poor regulation create barriers to growth and artificially constrain the City’s proven ability to act as the engine of the UK’s economy,” claimed Mark Boleat, chairman of policy and resources at the City of London Corporation.

Harrison Dear, a specialist media recruitment agency, takes a keen interest in reports such as this.
A spokesperson provided this statement: “London is certainly on the up and jobs are being created all over the capital. The media industry is certainly growing and we can see evidence of that in this report, which states that there’s a lot more to come.

“London is the centre for the majority of lucrative opportunities in the media industry, and that only looks set to continue over the coming decade.
