Advanced Ceramics offer various benefits in a diversity of applications. Heat and corrosion resistant, they provide high wear as well as high tensile strength, volume resistivity and dielectric strength. They also offer lower thermal expansion than plastics or metals and a longer lifetime at original design dimensions and tolerances.

Alumina’s high abrasion resistance, high temperature, chemical resistance and electrical insulation make it one of the most used materials in industry. This material also has a superb cost-to-part life performance record. Anderman Ceramics’ alumina purity is available from 95% to 99.9%.

Extreme hardness is the principal feature of Advanced Ceramics, together with their superior wear resistance. This has led to use in an extensive variety of applications, such as furnace tubes, pump components, cutting tools and other wear-resistant components for industrial equipment.

Advanced Ceramics are also used in a range of other applications, such as in medical fields and in interesting specialist applications advanced ceramics can be used as replacements when bones and joints have been damaged by diseases such as osteoarthritis or rheumatism, providing improvement to the functioning of joints (knees, ankles, elbows, shoulders, hips, etc).

Artificial bones and joints made from ceramics are hard, strong and compatible with the human body and widely used in the medical field in combination with other materials such as titanium alloys.

Ceramics are also found in space. Alumina (which is an advanced ceramic) has superior strength, corrosion and heat resistant and insulating properties and using advanced metallizing technology can be combined with different materials in a way that makes these items extremely airtight even in space. These components can be used on the terminals of the lithium ion batteries as an emergency power source.

Extremely reliable, advanced ceramics are more suitable than glass, resin or any other material to maintain the good performance of the batteries over a long period of time in the harsh space environment, where the temperature variations are extreme. These components can also withstand high radiation levels high and the need to withstand the extreme vibrations of being launched into space from Earth, where other materials would be too fragile.
