Job availability across the East of England leaps up by 31% Tuesday 14 July 2015 PDF Print Venn Group Contract Recruitment Index July 2015 “Monitoring contractor demand across the East of England” Contract Recruitment Index highlights • Overall hiring activity roaring as rates jump 31% • Property sector driving growth across the region • NHS projects boost IT recruitment market • Rates rise in line with huge growth in demand Job vacancies in the East of England increase by 31% The June 2015 East of England Recruitment Index recorded a huge 31% month-on-month increase in job availability with 3,815 vacancies advertised, compared to 2,912 in May 2015. Avtar Singh, Associate Director of Venn Group, commented: “The East of England saw steady growth across the property sector, especially within maintenance, surveying and engineering. Projects addressing the need for more homes also got underway, greatly boosting the demand for planners and technical officers. In the social housing sector, managerial professionals were snapped up in reaction to new legislation which called for housing associations to be heavily regulated and scrutinised over their finances.” Contractors gain in remuneration stakes as a result of increased demand The average rate for those securing jobs in June 2015 has risen since last month’s Index, with contractors now receiving an average of £224 per day across the region. Avtar Singh continued: “The second quarter has already seen significant growth in public sector IT – particularly across NHS organisations. As trusts worked to streamline their processes and sharpen their recruitment practices, professionals were snapped up to manage these projects. The main areas of growth were information and performance analysts, IT trainers, and nurse assessors. “In big news for the tech sector, AstraZeneca, the pharmaceuticals company, announced that its new branch will bring 2,000 fresh jobs to Cambridge. This was the latest in a string of similar moves which will see genomics powerhouse Illumina, tech giants such as Apple and many other global players take up residence in the rapidly expanding Cambridge cluster – which is estimated to create as many as a quarter of a million new jobs in the next ten years.” ENDS Notes to editors Venn Group is the UK’s only specialist contract recruiter for organisations within the public and private sectors. www.venngroup.com Methodology The Recruitment Index uses Venn Group’s own weekly records of new contract job vacancies.
