London, 1st August 2015: The Wiggle Honda professional women’s cycling team today announces the signing of Swedish Champion Emma Johansson on a two year deal, covering the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The 16 rider strong Wiggle Honda team competes in elite road racing and track events including the UCI Women’s Road World Cups, the Giro d’Italia and La Course by the TDF and is based near Brussels in Belgium.

Johansson (born in 1983 in Sollefteå, Sweden), currently rides with the Australian registered ORICA-AIS team and is based in Belgium. She has enjoyed great success in 2015, winning her third Thüringen Rundfahrt title, victory in the Durango-Durango Emakumeen Saria one-day race and a top ten finish in treacherous conditions at La Course by Le Tour de France. In 2015 Emma also rode to a Swedish National Championship double in the road race and time trial respectively, bringing her total number of Swedish National titles up to 12.

On signing to Wiggle Honda, Johansson says. “I’m happy to announce that I will ride for the Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling Team in 2016. After 10 years as a professional cyclist and the three previous years with Orica-AIS, I feel I need new challenges. I have learned a lot professionally and personally during these last ten years, and I’m proud of the results I’ve achieved with the support of my teams. I plan to stop racing at the highest level of the sport following the 2016 season, and I’m confident that Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling Team is the best place for me to continue to learn and grow, even in my final season, so that I can call close to my career at my very best.
The 2016 season is an Olympic year, and it’s no secret that Rio is my main goal alongside my typical objectives at the World Cup races and in the Spring Classics. I won a silver medal in Beijing, and I would love to stand on the podium again in Rio”

According to Rochelle Gilmore, Wiggle Honda Team Managing Director, “Emma is a really experienced professional who will bring strength in depth to our team and be an invaluable asset on her own terms, as well as a mentor to the younger team members as they develop their racing experience.”

Wiggle Honda was founded by top Australian cyclist, Rochelle Gilmore in 2012 and is backed by the Bradley Wiggins Foundation, British Cycling and Cycling Australia.

The team’s two main sponsors are Wiggle, the world’s biggest online cycling and trisports retailer and car manufacturer Honda. As for personnel, the team with riders from nine countries is on its third line up and for 2015 this includes some of the biggest names and most successful and exciting riders in world cycling, including Great Britain’s Team Pursuit Olympic Track Champion Dani King; Italian road and track racing legend Giorgia Bronzini (with over 70 victories on the road to her credit); 11 times Japanese National Champion Mayuko Hagiwara and Amy Roberts, European Junior Track Cycling Champion in Team Pursuit.
