AIIM awards its 1,000th Certified Information Professional Tuesday 4 August 2015 PDF Print reaching such a landmark shows the AIIM CIP is even more relevant now than when we first launched it Information industry’s highest regarded professional qualification reaches landmark milestone Silver Spring, Md., August 4, 2015 –Information management analyst group AIIM has awarded its 1,000th Certified Information Professional (CIP) certification to Julia Sheehy, a significant landmark for one of the information industry’s most highly regarded professional qualifications. The global community of information professionals launched its CIP program in 2011. In in an independent survey with business executives conducted in 2014, it was shown that 61% prefer consultants that hold the CIP designation, 64% prefer to hire a CIP vs. a non-certified candidate and more than three-quarters would pay a CIP a salary premium. “We are delighted that Julia has become our 1,000th CIP, and reaching such a landmark shows the AIIM CIP is even more relevant now than when we first launched it,” said John Mancini, President, AIIM. “The world of information is changing rapidly, with organisations struggling to manage the explosion of content and information in modern business, and desperate for best practices to help deal with that on-going disruption. Any organisation that employs a CIP is getting a candidate that truly understands information and how it relates to the changing business world.” Julia is a Document Imaging Programmer Analyst at the University at Albany, with seven years of experience integrating external data sources with enterprise database systems. Working in such a challenging sector as higher education, Julia was keen to extend her skill-set and believes she is a more rounded and effective information worker now she has the CIP certification, more capable of communicating exactly how she helps the University of Albany. “Certification makes a clear statement about my commitment to professional development in my IT discipline, and helps me clearly identify the body of knowledge I recognised as being related to what I do,” she said. “Until I sought the certification I could not articulate succinctly what I bring to my employer. Accurately explaining ECM and what the discipline of information governance can gain my employer in terms of BOTH financial savings plus workflow efficiency, is the solid gain made through certification.” The AIIM CIP certification was developed in accordance with ISO Standard 17024 and candidates must demonstrate knowledge of six domain areas across the spectrum of content and information management. The CIP is the information industry’s most highly regarded professional certification and aims to enhance and promote the profession of information management. CIP accomplishes this mission by establishing standards, creating a fair examination process, granting certification to information professionals who meet its standards, and communicating the value of the credential to employers and clients. “To achieve CIP certification shows that person has credibility, is highly-skilled and is ideally placed to help any organisation drive insight from the information it holds,” concluded John Mancini. “Seasoned information workers can bring their knowledge up-to-date, while industry newcomers get the very best grounding on the path to becoming an information expert. I’d encourage anyone working within the information industry to consider CIP for their own professional development.” For further information about becoming an AIIM Certified Information Professional, please visit http://www.aiim.org/Training/Certification See Julia Sheehy’s further thoughts on AIIM Certified Information Professional here About AIIM AIIM has been an advocate and supporter of information professionals for 70 years.
