Angels at Play Director and author of parenting book Babyopathy - baby care the natural way, Angela J Spencer, has written a frank and open letter to the Prime Minister highlighting:

- the crisis facing the childcare sector due to the proposed 30hrs funding, new national minimum wage & current government policies
- the unacceptable regression in developmental achievements of children
- the crisis facing school places and the added impact of places needed by immigrant children
- the unacceptable failings of education resulting in the UK ranking at only 20th in the world
- the increase in mental health issues not only in teenagers but increasingly also in new dads and young children

In the letter Angela highlights many worrying statistics and facts including:

- In 2012 there 128,996 more births than the service was designed to cope with – no current figures available

- More than 250,000 teenagers returning to school in September 2013 were forced to continue to study Maths & English as they did not achieve a Grade C

- In 2014 figures published by exam boards showed a record fall in English results and a widening gap (now 8.8%) between boys and girls with girls continuing to come out on top

- 1 in 10 children between 5 and 16 suffer from diagnosable mental health disorder

- 80,000 children and young people suffer from severe depression

- 8,000 of these are under 10 years old

Angela continues with her thoughts on how many of these issues can be addressed. Please see the full letter attached to this press release.
