October 2nd 2015. Singer/songwriter Andy Bennett is delighted to announce the release of his first solo single. Hole in the Road, which features Andy on vocals, guitar, bass and drums, is a showcase for his fine musicianship and knack for crafting a memorable lyric. "The song is about trying to get somewhere but hurdles are always getting in the way. I am really happy about the single, really proud of it." Andy, who played guitar with hugely popular Birmingham band Ocean Colour Scene for 12 years before going solo in early 2015, is excited about producing and performing his own material. "I am a singer/songwriter, I never wanted to sing as a kid - I wanted to be a guitarist in a band - but the older you get you want to do it yourself. I love it - I love singing." Hole in the Road, which has been engineered by Danny McCormack and Peter Grant, is backed by a memorable psychedelic “Beatles-inspired” video featuring, eerie locations, characters with animal masks and even a nun! Created by Andy Maiden, the video which was shot in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in the ruins of Sutton Scarsdale Hall, in a former supermarket and in a pub - The Chesterfield Arms. An elderly nun had a cameo in the video - she strolled past at the beginning of the shoot and the artists convinced her to feature. "The more Alice in Wonderland it became, the better," said Andy. Hole in the Road - backed by b-side, the acoustic Three Wish Genie - is the lead single from Andy's debut album which is currently in production and is being engineered by Austen Kilburn. Multi-instrumentalist Andy Bennett first played guitar with Brit-pop/Mod revivalists Ocean Colour Scene when he was a teenager at school. His introduction included an arena tour which included an appearance at Wembley playing in front of a 15,000-strong audience. His band Sergeant supported OCS and when Damon Minchella left in 2003 Andy joined the band. He toured with the band and played on the albums One for the Road, On the Leyline, Live Acoustic at The Jam House, Live at The Town Hall, Saturday and 21. Andy also played with The Elements, who were signed to the Acid Jazz label and had indie chart success with the single Caught In A Storm for their self-titled debut album. He also plays in OCS guitarist Steve Cradock's band, supported Beady Eye and has played with the legendary Paul Weller. In addition to his tours, Andy plays regular gigs at venues across the Midlands and beyond as a solo artist or with a combination of other accomplished musicians, playing songs old and new and his own material.
