TAIWAN EXCELLENCE COMES TO LONDON

Dr Gee San, vice Chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and Professor of Economics at the Taiwan National Central University is visiting the UK this week to open the Taiwan Excellence Showcase at Westfield London.

Taiwan is a major player in the IT sector – it supplies 90% of the world’s notebooks and desktop PCs - and IT products made by Taiwan are ranked number one in the world. Acer and Asus are in the top five PC producers and the launch of the Apple iPhone 6 – assembled almost entirely by two Taiwanese firms and featuring Taiwanese-manufactured components – boosted the tech-sector substantially last year.
It recently hosted Asia’s biggest tech show, Comptuex (as it has done for the past 35 years) and is transforming itself from an own label manufacturing nation to a branded product provider.
In an effort to revamp its tech image however, Taiwan has recently turned its attention and investment in a new direction with more focus on innovation rather than mass manufacturing - and the Taiwan Excellence Showcase in London this week is a window on what established Taiwan brands and start-ups have to offer.

The UK is one of Taiwan’s significant trading partners, both in Europe and worldwide. The bilateral trade in goods between the UK and Taiwan in 2014 was nearly £4 billion and the UK is Taiwan’s third largest trading partner in Europe.

The Showcase, which runs from 15 -19 October, boasts some 70 brands and more than 150 state-of-the-art products, and offers visitors the chance to test out great tech design first hand from bikes and IT products through to safety kit and home interior gadgets. Acer will be launching their new-to-the-UK Predator 8 gaming tablet and Chromebook R11, Asus showcasing their new Zenbook and Dlink the Smart Home HD Starter Kit. In addition, Giant bikes will also be launching new performance bikes.
