Flying Bomb

The events will feature Kaboom Consulting’s own mix of live crowd-funding and instantaneous investment matchmaking.

London, Monday October 26 2015: Kaboom Consulting, (http://www.kaboomconsulting.co.uk/) London’s top new boutique business consulting firm, announced the first in what is to be a twice-monthly series of “Live Speedfunding” events, hosted at Library, the trendy new members’ only club in Covent Garden.

The first event takes place on Thursday October 29 at 7.30 PM at The Library Club, (http://www.lib-rary.com/) 112 St Martin’s Lane, London WC2N 4BD.

The events will feature Kaboom Consulting’s own mix of live crowd-funding and instantaneous investment matchmaking. Hosted by Jane Houghton, former Director of Engagement for the British Venture Capital Association, the chosen companies will have 5-10 minutes each to convince the judges and crowd, composed of London’s top young professionals and members of the financial community as well as representatives from incubators, such as the Open Data Institute and London City Incubator, why their ideas, inventions and operations are deserving of funding for growth and expansion.

Should the judges agree, they will proceed to further discussions in a cordoned-off top-floor boardroom, after which they will be, through exchange of e-mail and telephone contacts, connected with interested members of the audience.

The first event will feature pitches from mid-sized tech start-ups. DisciplineXGames (https://www.disciplinexgames.com/), is a white-label ‘behaviour tournament platform’ that helps users who want to enhance self-control design their own target behaviour challenges and compete against friends and family to see who maintains the agreed target behaviour for the longest period.

Flyezee (http://flyezee.com/), is an Internet platform that compares domestic flights to help customers find the best deal for their chosen destination.

The not-for-profit company Karisma Kidz (http://karismakidz.co.uk/ ) is an integrated platform that helps children develop emotional intelligence. The organisation enhances social and emotional learning for young children through gamification and provides feedback to the whole family, linking seamlessly with toys, activities and rewards in the 'real' world.

Judges for the first and future events are to include:

DN Capital’s Guy Ward Thomas (http://dncapital.com/), a tenured financial analyst and former start-up consultant for Rocket Internet;
Entrevo Founder Daniel Priestley (http://www.entrevo.com/), who, by the age of 25, had established a multi-million dollar event marketing and management business, and now, after publishing two books, The Entrepreneur Revolution and Key Person of Influence, runs a 9 month growth acceleration programme that has so far helped 500+ small enterprises across the globe garner finances and develop their businesses;

Neil Westwood, a former NHS trainer who developed Magic Whiteboard (http://www.magicwhiteboard.co.uk/) and went on to raise £100,000 on television’s Dragon’s Den and later bought it back 100%, making it one of the most successful businesses in the television program’s history;

Pete Craig, a start-up entrepreneur and investor and digital growth and marketing consultant, with over 20 years’ experience in C level Operations and a deep understanding of the digital space, and current co-founder of Shuttle Ventures (http://shuttle.ventures/ ), a leading edge tech development agency, Kubera Management, a bespoke business consultancy and Funded City, a real estate specific investment and lending platform;

Bolaji Sofoluwe, a co-founder of the Enterprise, Training & Knowledge Group at TK Capital, who has helped to develop 200+ Africa-based small businesses;

Former head of wealth management for Barclay’s Bank and current co-founder of Lucid Commercial Finance, Alister Betts;

Ex-Sotheby’s art expert Patrick van der Vorst, who also received £100,000 from Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden on Dragon’s Den, in 2010 for his Value My Stuff business (https://www.valuemystuff.com/en/home).

“I’m impressed by the ethos of Kaboom Consulting and that it is set up to become a one stop shop for entrepreneurs to gain funding and guidance,” said Neil Westwood. “Small businesses that employ apprentices are the lifeblood of the economy and investment allows firms to scale up and take on employees.”

Patrick van der Vorst adds, “The live speed crowd-funding event sounds fascinating and I wish all the entrepreneurs the very best of luck. The point for entrepreneurs to remember is that it is better to have 60 percent of 1,000 than 100 percent of 200.”

To complement the main program, Library will give all guests free customized Kaboom! Cocktails. Second-round drinks will also be on-the-house, so to speak, provided by Cake, which allows for customers to electronically split bills and open and pay out tabs at their favourite venues through its on-line application. DJ David Beiger will keep the music spinning before, during and after the main program, when he will be joined by live bands and performers from Kaboom’s ancillary talent agency, Kaboom Talent. Also, Library will be raffling off free memberships and offering all guests discounted Kaboom! Memberships. Finally, VIP Concierge service Concierge Circle will give away a £500 VIP make-over by London’s top stylists and designers.

Kaboom Consulting opened this year in London to provide bespoke, broad-based consulting services to companies of all shapes and sizes across industries, operating under the tagline “Live your passion and leave the rest to us.”

Its four founders include Matthew Goldstein, a Columbia University graduate and Fulbright Scholar whose global career has included opening, within emerging markets, major media and tech brands including Bloomberg, Fox, Viacom (MTV and Nickelodeon), and NAVTEQ.

In 2013, he participated in a Harvard and MIT-affiliated think tank for entrepreneurs and innovators, where he met Dr Ben Calderhead, another Kaboom co-founder, whose career in mathematics at London’s Imperial College honed him for the role he now provides at Kaboom, specializing in the quantitative analysis and optimization of business processes, as well as developing successful algorithms for hedge fund clients.

His brother, co-founder Adam Calderhead, is a specialist in change management, who came to Kaboom after spending a decade working for larger consulting firms like Accenture and Clarysis. The fourth co-founder, Patrick Rea, is an expert in social networking, who raised seed money for and developed the London Body Transformation Academy and Influential Gentlemen’s Club and serves as the company’s unofficial “man about town.”

Future Kaboom Speedfunding events are to be themed around various types of companies, such as those in biotech, renewable energy, retail, social impact, communications, financial and other industries.

The events is by invitation only. To request to be registered, please send your name, email and a short bio to speedfunding@kaboomconsulting.co.uk.
