Hosted by Jane Houghton, former Director of Engagement for the British Venture Capital Association, the chosen companies will have 5-10 minutes each to convince the judges and crowd, composed of London’s top young professionals and members of the financial community as well as representatives from incubators, such as the Open Data Institute and London City Incubator, why their ideas, inventions and operations are deserving of funding for growth and expansion. Should the judges agree, they will proceed to further discussions in a cordoned-off top-floor boardroom, after which they will be connected with interested members of the audience, through exchange of e-mail and telephone contacts. The first event will feature pitches from four entrepreneurs from mid-sized tech start-ups: David Hume for DisciplineXGames, which is a white-label ‘behaviour tournament platform’ that helps users who want to enhance self-control design their own target behaviour challenges and compete against friends and family to see who maintains the agreed target behaviour for the longest period. Bruce Hurd from Flyezee an Internet platform that compares domestic flights to help customers find the best deal for their chosen destination. Erika Brodnock from the not-for-profit company Karisma Kidz is an integrated platform that helps children develop emotional intelligence. The organisation enhances social and emotional learning for young children through gamification and provides feedback to the whole family, linking seamlessly with toys, activities and rewards in the 'real' world. Judges for the first events include: Bolaji Sofoluwe, a co-founder of the Enterprise, Training & Knowledge Group at ETK Group, who has helped to develop 200+ Africa-based small businesses. Guy Ward Thomas from DN Capital a tenured financial analyst and former start-up consultant for Rocket Internet. Daniel Priestley, Entrevo Founder who, by the age of 25, had established a multi-million dollar event marketing and management business. He runs a 9 month growth acceleration programme that has so far helped 500+ small enterprises across the globe develop their businesses. Julie Choo, Founder of Stratability is a board advisor, mentor and investor to several start ups in Fintech, strategic advisor to the C-level and MDs at many big banks as well as family offices with their business models and M&A deals. She has 15 years’ experience in financial services and technology, and more recently became a techpreneur with her talent-tech AI based platform aim at disrupting the recruitment industry. Pete Craig is a start-up entrepreneur, investor and digital growth and marketing consultant, with over 20 years’ experience in C level Operations.
