Despite fears that the UKs decision to leave the EU may impact the feasibility of the Northern Powerhouse, local businesses remain optimistic about the benefits it could have on the local economy. That’s according to latest survey data from multi-niche consultancy, Clayton Recruitment.

The data revealed that 75% of respondents believe the Northern Powerhouse will bring significant benefits to their business. The main reasons cited were improved transportation links between major employment hubs as well as an increase in population meaning a larger, skilled talent pool for organisations to recruit from.

Lynn Sedgwick, Managing Director of Clayton Recruitment, comments:

“Our survey reinforces what we’ve been saying for a long time – the Northern Powerhouse is desperately needed by our region. Not only will it stimulate increased business activity through vast improvements in infrastructure, but crucially it would also provide organisations with a significantly larger talent pool. At a time when many sectors in the North West are suffering from skills shortages this can only be a good thing. This could be a potentially game-changing investment programme and, like our survey respondents, we are hopeful that the plans don’t get scuppered because of all the activity around Brexit.”
