Virgin Media, the UK’s biggest cable operator, is the first provider to unveil student broadband packages ahead of the start of the autumn term.
Packages are being offered on short 9 month contracts to match the length of the academic year unlike Virgin Media’s traditional contracts which run for either 12 or 18 months.
Virgin’s student packages start from £22.50 a month for up to 30Mbps fibre optic broadband without a phone line. All options include broadband with no download caps and an inclusive Virgin Media Super Hub wireless router.
Unlike its current online deals, Virgin isn’t offering free installation for online student broadband orders meaning any service will be subject to a one-off fee of £49.95. TV packages include a free V HD set-top box in place of the usual TiVo digital TV recorder.
